SQUASH
Story by Maureen Fox, TransWeb
volunteer reporter
The Coolibah Fitness Centre hosted the squash venue at the XIth World
Transplant Games on Thursday, October 2, 1997. The Collibah Complex is
extremely well laid out and management of the 14 courts is under Mr. Frank
Mitrovich. Thirty-five individuals (26 men and 9 women) from 12 different
countries competed in a tighly fought competition for medals.
As with all venues, new friendships were made, and old acquaintances
renewed. It was a good day to be alive.
Venue: Coolibah Squash Centre
Coolibah is regarded as the best squash centre in Sydney, with 9 courts,
spectator facilities, and modern amenities. It is located just ten minutes
from Parramatta and 20 minutes from Olympic Park.
Rules:
Format: Best of 3 games throughout.
The first round will be played in a "round-robin," where each player
in a group plays each other player in the group. Group winners progress
to the knock-out stages. In the first round, matches will be played either
as one game or the best of 3 games, depending on the number of entries.
All games will be played to 9 points, with a tie-break at 8 points each.
In the knock-out stages, all matches will be played as the best of
3 games.
