About the Games
The Transplant Games are Olympic-style competitions for people who
have received life-saving transplants (heart, liver, lung, kidney,
pancreas, bone marrow). The Games are overseen by the World Transplant
Games Federation, and each event is organized by a local organizing
committee.
The 4th Winter World Transplant Games are held in Nendaz, Switzerland
(see "Venues") and are organized
and hosted by the local Swiss committee.
About this webcast
TransWeb: All About Transplantation and Donation (www.transweb.org)
is a non-profit educational web site based at the University of
Michigan. The first transplantation and donation web site in the
world when it was launched in January 1995, TransWeb's mission is
to serve as a resource for patients, families, students, health
care professionals, and the general public, as well as to promote
organ and tissue donation.
Because we feel strongly that the Games are a great way to show
that transplantation works and to emphasize that this new-found
health is made possible by donation, we devote significant time
and energy (and volunteers' efforts!) toward capturing the Games
for presentation on the web. In Nendaz, the TransWeb webcast team
is comprised of photographers, audio interviewers, writers, and
web/digital photo processors (see "Backstage")
who have generously volunteered their expertise to report on the
Games.
