Subject: Pins Date: Wed, 3 Jul 2002 10:41:05 -0500 From: "LAVERNE CROSS" To: transweb@umich.edu Thanks so much for a terrific event. The rain couldn't dampen anything but our skin, hair and shoes. Enthusiasm and spirit were untouched! You folks did a great job. I didn't make it to the opening ceremonies early enough to get good pin-swapping time in so I've got several N. Texas pins if anybody wants some. There are many I didn't get (only about 13 or so). email 2crosses@msn.com Subject: Question Date: Wed, 10 Jul 2002 04:57:48 EDT From: Beratta92fs To: transweb@umich.edu Hi my name is JoAnn Arroyo, I am a Transplant recepient of a Kidney/Pancreas on 9-26-98. I was at the transplant games of 2002 in Orlando,Florida. I would like to know why aren't we on TV. We want to have everyone looking at us and to get the message out. I am with Team Southern California. Our Team Manager is the Director of the National Kidney Foundation in Los Angeles her name is JEANETTE MARTINZ. What she did was to give up one of her Kidneys to one of our Teammates name Julie S. she is doing great. She was not doing that great when she was on Dialysis. Jeanette desided to Donate one ofher Kidney's to save her life. Her parents and boyfriend did not want her to do it. I thought we could be on National TV. Like Channel 2,4,5, 7,9,11,13, and Channel 34 cable is Channel 6,15,16 these channels are the spanish channels. This is the way to get the Message Out About Donating your organ or your can give part of Liver, give up one Kidney, one Lung. There is too many of us on the waiting list. When I was transplanted the list was only 65,000 people waiting for a Organ. Now we are year 2002 and the list is about 85,000 people waiting. All you have to do is if you have a love one that died just tell the doctor that you want your parents, or who ever they are to use their Organs, eye, things like that. And they will give that persons body back to you for a burial. This way the list get shorter not longer. But it's up to you to save lifes. I would put example to you all. If it was your son or daughter or some love one you know you would want someone to donate and Organ to save your son or daughter or a love one right. So think about these people waiting on this list there is some have waited now for 5 years or longer. But some do not make it, they die. Also please think about the children who are dying. But first think about your kids if you have any. If you don't have any kids than donate one of your Kidney's,Lung, Part of a Liver-called a Split Liver Transplant. Thank you very much JoAnn Arroyo Subject: First time at transplant games. Date: Sun, 7 Jul 2002 19:14:20 EDT From: Dkbavon To: transweb@umich.edu My son Barry was on Team Philadelphia for the first time. It was such a meaningful week for all of us. It was an awesome experience and I'm telling everyone who will listen. dkbavon@aol.com! Subject: lost my camera Date: Sat, 6 Jul 2002 19:43:40 -0700 From: "Carol Hall" To: transweb@umich.edu Hi Everyone, First of all...what an amazing experience! It was such a wonderful oasis of love, gratefulness, and awe for life. Truly one of the very best things I have ever been a part of! Second, I lost my disposable camera! It only has about 10 or so pictures on it. It is a green fujifilm camera, and the first pictures taken on it were of some bamboo at our hotel. If anyone picked it up, and happened to develop it, and happens to see this email, it belongs to me...I would be more than happy to send you the money for the developing and shipping. My name is Laura Ellsworth, and I'm from Team Oregon/Washington. My email address is slellsworth@attbi.com. Please let me know if you find it! Thanks again, everyone. What a special experience to be a part of! Laura Kidney Recipient 10/19/99 Subject: (no subject)From the Editor: Thank you! Date: Tue, 2 Jul 2002 14:17:21 EDT From: Davidness To: transweb@umich.edu THANK YOU FOR BRINGING US THE GAMES AND ALL THOSE WONDERFUL STORIES AND PHOTOS ON THE WEB. WE WONDERED WHY WE COULDN'T GET ANYTHING AT THE END OF THE GAMES AND APPRECIATE KNOWING WHAT THE TROUBLE WAS. GOOD LUCK IN THE FUTURE AND THANK YOU! --- KATHY TIERNEY NESS, A SISTER OF A RECIPIENT PARTICIPATING FROM MN. From the Editor: Due to domain name server problems beyond our control, TransWeb was invisible from Sunday morning (June 30) through Monday afternoon (about 4pm). We at TransWeb are of course extremely disappointed that TransWeb became invisible on the most important day -- the day everyone was returning home from the Games and checking out the site and (we hope) telling their friends about it. The webcast team put their heart and soul and lots of sweat and long hours into making the best site we've ever done. We took over 3,300 photos, wrote over 20 stories, recorded hours of audio, and have a photogallery of over 100 pages, all trying to tell the story of the Games. I am very sorry we were invisible for so long, but hope you will now tell your family and friends the site is back! Subject: Transplant games Date: Tue, 2 Jul 2002 13:17:18 -0500 From: Donna Parrish To: transweb@umich.edu I just had to let Transweb know that they are very much appreciated. They do such a wonderful job! Such wonderful coverage! I was there with Nancy and Stan Smith. Nancy has my son's heart and both lungs. It was wonderful being at the games with them. It reinforced my belief that my son wanting to be an organ donor was the right thing. Thank you all so very much! The coverage of the Donor family Ceremony was excellant. Along with the games. --- Donna Parrish From the Editor: Thank you so much for saying so! Hearing from you is our best reward. Subject: Cycling results Date: Tue, 2 Jul 2002 14:03:08 EDT From: Plcjjc To: transweb@umich.edu As yet I have not seen any results of the cycling contest. The pictures are great but who won the event??????? From the Editor: To see results, please go to the NKF's games web site, www.transplantgames.org. Subject: Lost Bag at games Date: Tue, 2 Jul 2002 10:39:44 -0400 From: Susan Hammond To: transweb@umich.edu First of all, let me say as a donor mom that my first transplant games was a very meaningful event. The opening ceremonies and the Donor Recognition Ceremony was especially touching. While taking pictures of the quilt panel that my son's square is on, I left my navy 2002 Transplant Games Bag lying in the hallway. If anyone picked it up by accident, I would really like to get it back. It had the program and brochures from the Donor Ceremony in it, brochures from Disney, along with a tin of cinnamon breath mints, tube of Mary Kay lipstick, some money, and a couple of rolls of film. The film is what I want the most. One of the rolls was my only shots I took in Disney. My name and address is Susan Kilby, 1204 S. Walnut St., Seneca, SC 29678 864-882-2035(H) 864-247-2829(M) The pictures and stories on your website are wonderful. Y'all did a great job covering the events. Subject: Eleanor or Bob Date: Tue, 02 Jul 2002 10:36:12 -0400 From: Margaret Cellucci To: transweb@umich.edu Hi, I finally had a chance to check out the TransWeb site and to my pleasant surprise you captured so many wonderful moments of Team Maryland - and a thousand other wonderful moments during the Transplant Games. As the Team Maryland Manager and on behalf of Team Maryland, Thanks!!! I do have a request ... is it possible to purchase pictures from you? Or have them copied to a CD for purchase? Let me know ... Again, great job ... the site looks great! Margaret Cellucci Manager, Advertising and Public Affairs Transplant Resource Center of Maryland From the Editor: We are probably going to produce a CD of all 3,300 photos we took for the Games webcast, so watch for a mailing from the NKF about how to order one! Subject: 2002 Transplant Games Date: Tue, 2 Jul 2002 09:24:31 EDT From: EyesLate To: transweb@umich.edu My husband (Jeff Schiff, athlete) and I (Nancy Johnson, living donor) just returned from the games in Orlando. I just wanted to email and thank you for all the hard work you put into this site. Our friends and family back home in Chicago were happy they could access the daily progress and found it to be informative and thorough. We all felt much more connected and were so pleased to have it available. Thank you again. P.S. The photos were great! Subject: Thanks Date: Tue, 2 Jul 2002 09:09:14 -0400 From: David Hightshue To: transweb@umich.edu Thank you for helping out at the 2002 Transplant Games. --- D.Hightshue MD Subject: photo gallery Date: Tue, 2 Jul 2002 08:01:20 -0400 From: JOHN DAVIS To: transweb@umich.edu Nice to see the site back up! When I look in "Photo Gallery" - there were, up until Saturday, 50 pictures in the gallery. When I pull up the gallery today, the top right says pictures 1-99. However, when I start to access the 1-99, it immediately goes to 1-50, and the first picture disappears. Not having been able to attend this year, even though my son competed, the pictures are our link to the games. I'm hoping the gallery will be back in order soon. Thank you for your dedication in bringing this event to the world. --- John Davis From the Editor: Thank you for your kind commments and the heads-up about the gallery. It's now working properly, and has over 100 pages! Subject: 20K CYCLING FINISHING TIMES/RESULTS Date: Mon, 1 Jul 2002 15:50:47 EDT From: MRMIKECAUSA To: transweb@umich.edu HI TransWeb, This site is looking greater & greater. You all must be working 25 hours a day on this. Favor though please, As to the lateness of the day, the SOMERSPORTS people told us all that you would indeed have the 20k Cycling Times posted, as they didn't/couldn't get them processed at the end of Saturday. I know which 'place' I finished, I just have no idea of the Winners 'winning' time, and how much further back I was. Sure would appreciate you posting the times for both the 1k & 20k Cycling events too! Thanks for a superb site, --- Mike F, Team So Cal, 1 July 2002 From the Editor: To see results, please go to the NKF's games web site, www.transplantgames.org. I'm back home now, Texas, and trying to rest, at work, from my vacation. I competed in the games in Women's singles tennis (30-39). Unfortunately, the film was ruined that evidenced my performance at the games. I wonder if you had any you could send me via email at grodriguez@piperpowers.com so that I can print them and have them for my memories. I participated for Team Texas (South & Central). We were to look for each other at the closing ceremonies, but never connected. She was an adorable little girl with red hair and glasses and a wonderful smile. Her name is Jeannie and she is from Clearwater, Florida. Help me find Jeannie so I can send her a pin. Dell Rachell X3465 Subject: correction Date: Mon, 01 Jul 2002 11:37:16 -0700 From: Timothy J. Truxaw Organization: Ferrette & Slater To: transweb@umich.edu Dear Webmaster - We love your coverage of the Games, but the name of our son (the 18-year old who won the AST award at closing ceremonies) is mis-spelled ("Truax") in the text on the closing ceremonies. The correct spelling of his name is Christopher Truxaw. Please correct if possible. Thanks! Tim Truxaw From the Editor: I apologize for the error. Please see the corrected page. Subject: opening ceremonies Date: Mon, 01 Jul 2002 16:02:48 -0100 From: Paula Huffman To: transweb@umich.edu Hey Transweb Folks: Fantastic coverage. Pictures, stories etc. are so wonderful. That you would spend your time and energy covering this event in such detail is truly both a blessing to the participants and an source of inspiration and encouragement to recipients unable to attend as well as those on the waiting list. No criticism intended, as your task is monumental, but I am "misidentified" in the photos from the "Opening Ceremony". While it is true, many would say I am a "maniac" I am the team manager for Team Virginia as well as a double lung recipient. The very large crab on my head is a tribute to the state of Virginia - world renown for its seafood industry... --- Paula Huffman, Manager, Team Virginia From the Editor: So sorry! The caption has been corrected. Check it out! Subject: results Date: Mon, 1 Jul 2002 11:25:38 -0400 From: Foley, Mike To: transweb@umich.edu Hello, Why are the results still still so incomplete? When we checked now, the pictures with the opening ceremonies story were not there - is there any way to have it emailed to us as we would love to have a copy for posterity. Thanks for all your coverage of the Games - we really enjoyed being able to see pictures and stores since we could not be at the Games this time. Thank you. William H. "Bo" Bobertz Editor's note: Check back on the site again, we have not removed any photos --- we have just changed some of the links. Note that there are now 3 pages of opening ceremonies coverage, plus the opening ceremonies photos that are at the start of the photo gallery. Let me know if you can't find it, OK? I hope you enjoy the coverage as much as we enjoy creating the web site! Did you know we took over 3400 photographs? Keep checking back over the next week as we put the finishing touches. I received the "Gift of Life" on 7/6/2000 at the University of Miami (Jackson Memorial Hospital) and I am doing pretty well now. Yesterday, I particiated in a 50 yard dash. I did OK, although I did not get a medal. Tomorrow, I will have two swimming events, plus my dad and I are doing the 5K Walk for Organ Donation. I raised almost $300.00 for this great cause! I am so glad that the Transplant Olympics are being held. The Opening Ceremony was truly awesome on Wednesday and I have made a lot of new friends. I am so grateful to my donor's family for giving me a second chance at life.
