Ultimately, it is up to you to take good
care of yourself and your new kidney. You need to take your medications,
have blood drawn, visit your doctor, and lead a healthy life in order to
give your new kidney the best chance possible.
A transplanted cadaveric
kidney will function an average of ten years. Some kidney transplants fail
sooner, but some, especially those from living donors, have lasted 20 or
even 30 years. If your transplant fails, you go back on dialysis and may
start the transplant journey again.
Give yourself the best chance possible by taking good
care of yourself. Enjoy this new life you’ve been given! |
