The donor's family
After you receive a kidney from a cadaveric donor, you may wish to thank the donor’s family for consenting to organ donation. In the midst of their own tragedy, they made a generous gift that enabled others to live.

can write a letter or send a card anonymously through your transplant coordinator, who will send your letter to the organ procurement organization. The OPO, in turn, will forward your letter to the donor’s family. 

Each transplant recipient may find a way to express gratitude for this second chance at life.  Some have honored their donor by planting a tree, giving their U.S. Transplant Games medal to their donor’s parents, or by writing a poem.
